Petr Kratky ‘disappointed’ in how they approached the game after loss against Punjab FC

    November 27, 2024

Mumbai City FC head coach Petr Kratky was extremely disappointed after they suffered a 0-3 loss against Punjab FC in the ongoing Indian Super League at the Mumbai Football Arena, Mumbai on Tuesday. The gaffer said he didn’t like the way they approached the game and he has no excuses for the loss.

Ezequiel Vidal, Luka Majcen, and Mushaga Bakenga scored for the Shers to give a commanding win to their team. In fact, the Islanders dominated the possession with 64.5% and took four shots on target but could not find the back of the net.

“I’m not giving us excuses,” Petr Kratky said in the post-match press confrence.

“We train together; everyone wants to play. It’s up to individuals, you know, how they understand each other, how they want to play, how they think. There were a lot of missed passes, and not understanding. You can see sometimes on the pitch—he passes, he’s not ready to receive. There are small things like that. I’m more disappointed in how we approach the game in terms of what we tell the boys and (they) try to execute it,” Kratky added.

The defending champions’ manager praised the opposition for executing their plans to perfection and delivering as a unit.

“Punjab did very well in terms of what they tried to achieve, and they achieved everything. They don’t press too high. They were waiting for a mistake, and we absolutely gave it to them today.”

“For me, we were a little bit naïve. We just played between, when they waited to win the ball and go for a counter-attack. They are very good at it,” Kratky opined.

Mumbai City FC has conceded 13 goals in the eight games and feels conceding goals remains a concern for the team.

“Conceding (goals) is the problem—how we’re conceding, how we do the turnovers. We have to look at that type of stuff,” Kratky said.

“All areas need to improve because where we are on the ladder, how we played today, it’s just simply not good enough,” he added.

Mumbai City FC will next take on Hyderabad FC at the Mumbai Football Arena on Saturday.
