Premier League Club Eyeing La Liga-Based Winger
Leeds United are reportedly preparing a €20 million move for Sevilla winger Ruben Vargas as they look to strengthen their squad during the January transfer window.
The Switzerland international has impressed in La Liga this season and has emerged as a key target for the Premier League side following their difficult return to the top flight.
Vargas joined Sevilla permanently in January 2025 on a long-term contract and has steadily established himself under head coach Matias Almeyda.
Despite joining midway through last season, the winger has become a regular starter, contributing goals and assists while showcasing pace and creativity on the flanks.
His performances have attracted attention from England, with Leeds now said to be readying a concrete offer.
Leeds’ interest comes after a challenging start to the 2025-26 Premier League campaign. The newly promoted side invested heavily in the summer, spending around £100 million to improve their squad, but results have not matched expectations.
The Whites currently sit in the bottom half of the table, raising concerns about their ability to stay clear of relegation.
However, signs of improvement have emerged in recent weeks. Daniel Farke’s team are unbeaten in their last three league matches, including an eye-catching win over Chelsea and a draw against reigning champions Liverpool.
Those results briefly lifted Leeds out of the relegation zone and provided renewed optimism heading into a demanding festive schedule.
According to reports in Spain, Leeds view Vargas as an ideal addition to boost their attacking options.
The 27-year-old has registered three goals and four assists in 13 appearances across all competitions this season, although a recent hamstring injury has sidelined him for Sevilla’s last three league games.
Despite that setback, his form has also drawn interest from other Premier League clubs.
Speculation over Farke’s future has intensified amid the uneven start to the season, but the Leeds boss has remained defiant.
He has acknowledged supporters’ frustration while insisting he is focused on steadying the club and keeping them in the Premier League.
With a run of tough fixtures ahead and the January window approaching, Leeds’ pursuit of Vargas could prove a decisive step in shaping their campaign.
