PSG And Mbappé React To Court Ruling On Wage Dispute

Paris Saint-Germain and Kylian Mbappé have responded to the Paris Labour Court’s ruling on a dispute regarding his unpaid wages.
The court at the French capital, in its ruling on Tuesday, ordered the Ligue 1 champions to pay Mbappé, who left the club two seasons ago, €61m in unpaid wages and bonuses.
As all four judges ruled in favour of the Real Madrid centre-forward, PSG, in a statement, said they take note of the judgment pronounced, which they will execute, while reserving the right to appeal.
“Paris Saint-Germain has always acted in good faith and with integrity, and will continue to do so.
“The Club is now looking to the future, based on unity and collective success, and wishes the player the best for the rest of his career,” the club added.
Mbappé began the legal dispute with PSG after his departure on a free transfer back in the summer of 2024. PSG had filed a counterclaim of €440m last month, whilst Mbappé had, through his lawyers, demanded a sum of €263m, which included the unpaid wages and bonuses, as well as moral harassment, defamation, and revision of contract.
According to AFP, the four judges of Paris’ Labour Court ruled in favour of the Real Madrid centre-forward after a tense hearing that saw both parties claim colossal fees in damages from each other.
It was gathered that when PSG saw that Mbappé would not renew his deal with Les Parisiens and was ready to leave on a free in 2024, PSG failed to pay the last three months’ worth of Mbappé’s salary.
In his reaction, Mbappé’s lawyer said the ruling confirms that commitments made must be honoured, and it reaffirms that even in the professional football industry, labour law applies to everyone.
From the statement released by the current UEFA Champions League holders, who were countersuing Mbappé for €440m, it is expected that they will appeal the ruling.
However, L’Equipe reported that PSG remains undecided on the matter.
In a matter of days, there will be clarity on the next line of action by the club.
