Punjab FC have strengthened their defence with the signing of Cameroonian centre-back Jephthe Patrick Gerard Bahanack ahead of the 2026-27 Indian Super League season.
The club announced the move on Tuesday, with the 29-year-old defender signing a contract that will keep him at Punjab FC until May 31, 2027.
Bahanack arrives with considerable experience from European football and is expected to provide additional strength and composure to Punjab’s backline. The 1.85-metre-tall defender is naturally left-footed and has spent much of his professional career playing in Europe.
His football journey began at N.K.U.F.O. Academy Sports in Cameroon before he moved to France to continue his development with Stade Reims.
Bahanack later took his career to Greece, where he represented several clubs, including Ergotelis, Lamia and Niki Volos. He was also part of the Levadiakos squad that lifted the Super League 2 title during the 2021-22 campaign.
His most recent spell came with Ethnikos Achna in the Cypriot First Division. The move to Punjab FC will now give the Cameroonian defender a new challenge as he prepares to compete in the Indian Super League.
Bahanack expressed his excitement about joining the club and highlighted Punjab FC’s ambitions as a major factor behind his decision.
“I am extremely proud to join a club with such an ambitious vision. Punjab FC’s project under Roundglass Sports instantly appealed to me, and I am highly motivated to embrace this new challenge,” Bahanack said after completing the move.
The defender also made clear that he is ready to contribute immediately as Punjab prepare for the upcoming campaign.
“I look forward to working hard alongside the squad, fighting for every point, and making the fans proud this season.”
Bahanack’s arrival provides Punjab FC with another experienced option in central defence as preparations for the 2026-27 season continue.
Having played across different leagues in France, Greece and Cyprus, the defender brings a range of experience to the squad. His physical presence, left-footed profile and ability to remain composed with the ball could offer Punjab additional options at the back.
With the new season approaching, Punjab FC will hope their latest addition can quickly settle into the squad and play an important role in their Indian Super League campaign.
