Along with Indian Super League sides, the I-League teams have also stepped up their activity in the transfer window as reports suggest that Rajasthan United have signed former Bashundhara Kings forward Nuha Marong. The forward last played at the Bangladesh Premier League for his former team Bashundhara Kings and had some success over there and hence he will be a big signing for Rajasthan going into the I-League season. The news was first confirmed by Khelnow and it looks like a big signing for the I-League outfit who are taking big strides in the current market.
Signing a forward of Marong’s calibre only proves how serious are Rajasthan United this season. They are currently featuring in the Durand CUp and despite being in a tough group which is hailed as the ‘group of death’ by the supporters and experts, they have a realistic chance of reaching the quarterfinals courtesy of their 3-2 win over ISL outfit ATK Mohun Bagan and 0-0 draw against East Bengal in back to back fixtures.
The club has played some good counter attacking football and is filled with young talent from all over the country. Therefore the addition of the Gambian forward will give them a focal point in attack and help the others to play in and around him.
Although Marong is not someone with Indian football experience, he has played at the Salt Lake at the AFC Cup group matches when he scored against Maziya Sports & Recreation and also netted another goal against I-League outfit Gokulam Kerala in front of the crowd in Kolkata. So he has a lot of continental football experience and that will make him a leader of men in this young rajasthan United side and that is something that the Gambian will cherish.
Marong has played in several clubs back in Spain and has a dual citizenship of both Gambia and Spain so one can understand how strong his technique and style of play is coming into this I-League outfit. Marong has featured for teams like CA Osasuna, Promesas, Atletico Saguntino, CD Castellon, Atletico Baleares, Racing, Recre Granada, UCAM Murcia, UE Costa Brava before moving to Asia and joining Bashundhara Kings. He is someone who can score a lot of goal and also create chances and be the leader in that dressing room which they needed heading into the I-League season.
