Ruben Amorim says Harry Maguire deserves England recall

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim said that in-form Harry Maguire deserves England recall. The experienced defender scored the winning goal with a brilliant header against Ipswich Town at the Old Trafford on Thursday. 

Meanwhile, Maguire was not included in England’s Euro Cup squad by former manager Gareth Southgate. The defender has played 64 matches for the Three Lions.

Maguire has produced improved performances for the Red Devils in the ongoing season even though the club has failed to produce desired results.

“If it’s enough is with the national coach. I would be really happy for him, I think he deserves [it],” Amorim told reporters when asked if he thinks Maguire’s form is good enough to be considered by England.

“He is a great guy, I think he needs to still improve because when you are a player you can improve every time and improve a lot of things,” added Amorim, who was speaking ahead of Sunday’s FA Cup fifth round against Fulham at Old Trafford.

“But I think his performances in the moment are quite good and you feel he is more a leader now that can help a national team, so I hope he is in the national team in the next games.”

Meanwhile, England made it to the Euro final in Germany and former Chelsea and Bayern Munich boss Thomas Tuchel replaced Southgate as the national team’s manager.

England suffered a 2-1 loss in the summit clash against Spain, losing their second Euro final on the bounce.

Maguire is part of the starting XI in Saturday’s match against Fulham at Old Trafford on Sunday with score 0-0 after 33 minutes.
