Mohammedan Sporting Club interim head coach Mehrajuddin Wadoo was pleased after a 2-2 draw against Punjab FC in the team’s final league stage game at the Kishore Bharati Krirangan, Kolkata in the ongoing Indian Super League on Monday.
Ezequiel Vidal scored for the Shers in the ninth minute whereas the visitors’ captain Luka Majcen doubled the team’s lead in the 53rd minute. However, the home team bounced back as super subs Marc Schmerböck and Robi Hansda found the back of the net to help them share a point.
The hosts had 54.6% possession and took seven shots on target.
“Today, I am so proud of my players and the way they’ve fought in the second half. We were 0-2 down, (but in the second half), we created more chances and equalized 2-2,” Wadoo said in the post-match press conference.
Speaking about his substitutions and their impact on the final result, Wadoo shared, “I think we made two changes in the second half when Robi (Hansda) and Bikash (Singh) came, and they changed the intensity of the game, and they really made a difference.”
“Even Bikash was very effective from the wings. So that put pressure on Punjab’s defence, and we created chances, and we scored,” he continued.
Wadoo showered praise on Marc Schmerböck and said the Austrian is adapting to Indian football as well as improving.
“I think he’s (Schmerböck) a good player, and sometimes it takes time for new foreign players to adapt to the situation, adapt to the country, adapt to football, and adapt to Indian football,” he said.
“So, Mark (Schmerböck) is in that phase right now, and slowly, we are giving him the game time, and (he’s) improving. Today, he scored a goal, and he’s definitely going to perform very well in the Super Cup,” Wadoo concluded.
Mohammedan SC finished the ISL 2024-25 season as the cellar-dwellers with only two wins in 24 games and a total of 13 points.
