Kerala Blasters FC captain Adrian Luna wants to win the trophy and play attacking football to entertain the club’s fans. Kerala Blasters FC finished the ISL 2023-24 season in fifth place with 10 wins in 22 games and a total of 33 points and the Yellow Tuskers will be determined to come up with an improved performance under new head coach Mikael Stahre.
Meanwhile, Luna scored three goals and provided four assists in 10 appearances of the previous season of the ISL for Kerala Blasters FC.
The Uruguayan midfielder has played a key role in the team’s success, featuring in 53 Indian Super League (ISL) games and making 30 goal contributions over the last three seasons.
“First of all, I want to play all season. Secondly, the goal for me and my team is to win a trophy. And, thirdly, to play good and attacking football, to entertain the people in the stadium, and have fun on the pitch,” Luna said in an interview with Sportstar.
Earlier, Luna played under the tutelage of former coach Ivan Vukomanovic and he is now set for a new beginning under Stahre.
When quizzed about the differences he has experienced between the two head coaches, Luna said: “Some principles are the same, but the general idea of football of Ivan (Vukomanovic) and Mikael (Stahre) is different. When you come in as a new coach, you need to work a lot on the tactical aspect, and he has been doing that.”
“With the new coach, we have some fresh principles, which you can see already. We press high; we want to recover the ball high on the pitch, be vertical, and score. But at the same time, one has to manage it well because they cannot press for 90 minutes,” he remarked.
Kerala Blasters hasn’t yet won an ISL trophy since the inception of the tournament despite reaching the final on three occasionsand Luna wants to end the title drought.
“Now, it’s my fourth season with Kerala Blasters FC, and it’s amazing. The only way we, as a team, can pay them back is to give everything on the pitch and win a trophy for them,” Luna said.
“For the club and for myself, it is very important because this club has been waiting for 11 years for a trophy. It means a lot that we take that burden off our shoulders,” he further stated.
