FC Goa head coach Manolo Marquez stated he will try to achieve something more in the upcoming season of the Indian Super League. In the last season, the Gaurs finished the league stage in the third spot, winning 13 out of their 22 matches.
However, they could not go all the way in the tournament. Marquez, who has taken over the coaching baton of the Blue Tigers, wants to add silverware to FC Goa’s cabinet.
“Last season was okay, but at times we felt we could have achieved more. This season we will try again,” he said during the Gaur Fest event.
“The only thing that I can promise is that these players will give everything in every single action, in every single game.”
The 55-year-old has spent four years in India, coaching Indian Super League clubs like Hyderabad FC and FC Goa and he will look to make the most of his experience of working with Indian players.
Marquez has coached ISL in more than 100 games. The veteran led Hyderabad FC to glory in the ISL in the 2022 season when the Nizams defeated Kerala Blasters on penalties.
On the other hand, veteran defender Sandesh Jhinghan played a key role in the success of the team in the last season.
Speaking on support of FC Goa fans when he first arrived in the state, Jhinghan said, “I remember when I came here last year, driving from the airport, every car and every bike I saw had the badge of FC Goa. Every house had a flag of FC Goa, and every jersey was of FC Goa. When I went to Fatorda Stadium and heard the loud ‘Forca Goa’ chants, I realised that this is not just a football club. FC Goa is an emotion. FC Goa is in the air of Goa and the heart of all Goans. That is what makes FC Goa special.”
