Ahead of the Asian Wrestling Olympic Qualifiers coming up next month, The Wrestling Federation of India has shown their willingness to host the Asian Olympic Qualifiers after the venue was moved from the City of Xian due to the Coronavirus outbreak in China.
The Asian Wrestling Qualifiers, which was initially set to hold in the Chinese City of Xian, was changed by the World governing body for Wrestling, UWW [ United World Wrestling] to the 27th – 29th of March 2020.
The deadly Coronavirus, which originated from Wuhan, has already killed 900 people, with over 24,000 people infected in China.
The WFI President Bhushan Sharan Singh revealed in a statement that the UWW inquired for his opinion about the changing of the venue, and he replied by indicating how important it is for the venue to be moved from China. He expects the decision to be made in the coming days.
The President said that if the WFI is asked to host, then they will be ready. He added that India would put their preparations in top gear for the Asian Championship, and if after the UWW has reviewed it, then it will be awarded to them [WFI].
India has been saddled with the responsibility of hosting the Asian Championships, which will begin on the 18th of February to 23rd 2020. The WFI President is hoping that the excellent organization of the event will help UWW use that as a yardstick to secure the hosting right for the Asian Olympic Qualifiers.
