Former NFL receiver Chad Johnson is all set to make his debut in the Boxing ring on June 6 as he gears up to take on bare-knuckle fighter Brian Maxwell in the first fight of the evening.
Earlier Johnson was supposed to fight former NFL cornerback Pacman Jones but he refused to face him in the ring and chose to take on Maxwell instead.
Johnson is working out in Houston at present along with Jermall and Jermell Charlo in order to prepare for the fight.
“My goal is to get out alive,” Johnson told Cameron Wolfe of ESPN.com.
“I want my face still intact. I want my kids to still know it’s me. But I want to entertain. I don’t want to embarrass those who put the time and energy into me. People who are buying tickets, people that are showing up, I want them to leave and say, ‘I doubted Ocho, but to see him get in the ring, knowing that someone tried to kill [him]. He put on one hell of a f–king show,’” he added.
As per reports, Maxwell has a 0-3 record as a bare-knuckle fighter, including a couple of losses by knockouts. He has also participated in a standard Boxing match, which he lost. On top of that, he has a 2-3 record in the MMA as well.
During his NFL career, Johnson has represented a total of five teams — Cincinnati Bengals, New England Patriots, Miami Dolphins, Montreal Alouettes, and Monterrey Fundidores. His career lasted for a span of 16 years between 2001 and 2017, during which he made it to the Pro-bowl six times, was in the All-Pro first team three times and in the All-Pro second team once. He was also the NFL receiving yards leader in 2006 and is a part of the 10,000 Receiving Yards Club as well.
