Indian pugilist Nikhat Zareen confident as she believes in her abilities ahead of the Asian and Commonwealth Games

 

Indian pugilist Nikhat Zareen will feature at the Asian Games with the aspirations of winning a medal. The 25-year-old has recently shared that she has worked on her technique a lot and has become a more technical boxer than she was previously. A member of the TOPS scheme, Zareen is currently preparing for the  Women’s World Boxing Championship scheduled in Turkey and will start on the 6th of May and run till the 21st of May.

A total number of 12 boxers including Nikhat Zareen and Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain are all set to compete at this event. This will be a great event for assessment ahead of the flagship Commonwealth Games and Asian Games. “I’m really excited and confident (about competing at the World Championship). Lately I’ve been on a good run and I hope that it’ll continue. I’ve prepared well for it,” Zareen said to Sports Authority of India (SAI).

The Telengana based boxer shared how she has focused on her growth and development and as become more stronger. She revealed that she has worked on physical and mental aspects and has largely improved her technique. “I had analysed my performance and worked on the things in which I was lacking. I’ll give my best at the world championship. I’ve improved my game, both physically and mentally. I’m more of a technical boxer now.”

The Indian contingent of 12 boxers featuring at the World Championships along with 11 support staff have already landed in Turkey and will go through a training session there before the event starts. Apart from Zareen, Indian boxers like Lovlina Borgohain, Pooja Rani, Nitu Ghanghas, Anamika, Shiksha, Jaismine, Manisha, Parveen Hooda, Ankushita Boro, Saweety and Nandini.

The boxers have been well backed by the Sports Ministry as they have sanctioned a total amount of Rs 92.12 lakh for the facilities required in training. Nikhat Zareen is all set to compete in the 51kg category and it will be a great preparation for her ahead of the Asian Games. Apart from the 25-year-old, pugilists like Manisha Moun (57kg), Jaismine (60kg), Lovlina (69kg) and Saweety Boora (75kg) have confirmed their tickets to Hangzhou, China for the Asia Games scheduled from 10th September to 25th of the same month.
