The Boxing Federation of India (BFI) has announced a 12-member squad for the Grand Prix Usti nad Labem in Czechia, with the tournament serving as an important step in the country’s preparations for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
The competition, scheduled from June 17 to 21, will provide Indian boxers with valuable international exposure as they continue their build-up toward major global events.
Heading the women’s contingent is Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain, who will compete in the 75kg category. Joining her is reigning Asian Championships gold medallist Preeti Pawar in the 54kg division. The women’s team also features Sakshi (51kg), Priya (60kg) and Parveen (65kg), forming a balanced squad that combines proven performers with emerging talent.
The men’s team includes seven boxers across different weight categories. Jadumani Singh will represent India in the 55kg division, while Sachin Siwach has been selected in the 60kg class. Aditya Pratap will compete at 65kg, Sumit at 70kg and Ankush at 80kg. Kapil Pokhariya has been named in the 90kg category, while Narender will contest the heavyweight division above 90kg.
Notably absent from the squad are World No. 1 Jaismine Lamboria and Arundhati Choudhary. Both boxers continue to recover from injuries and have not been considered for selection for the Czechia event.
The Grand Prix Usti nad Labem remains one of the most prestigious and enduring tournaments on the European boxing calendar. With a history spanning more than five decades, the event has long attracted top international talent and served as a key platform for elite competition.
This year’s tournament will be held as a European Boxing Gold Tournament under World Boxing regulations. Athletes will compete across 10 men’s and 10 women’s weight categories, ensuring a high standard of competition and a strong international field.
For the Indian team, the event presents an opportunity to test preparations against quality opposition and gain crucial match experience ahead of future championships. With established names such as Lovlina Borgohain and Preeti Pawar leading the squad, Indian boxing will be aiming for strong performances as it continues its journey toward the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
The tournament is expected to provide selectors and coaches with valuable insights into the form and readiness of several boxers as India intensifies its preparations for upcoming international competitions.
