Indian boxers delivered valiant efforts on the second day of the Asian Boxing Championships 2026 in Ulaanbaatar, as Priya cruised to victory while Jadumani Singh Mandengbam narrowly missed out in a gripping contest.
Competing in the women’s 60kg category, Priya delivered a composed and commanding performance against Rimma Volossenko of Kazakhstan. The Indian boxer maintained control from the opening bell, showcasing sharp technique and tactical discipline to secure a unanimous 5-0 decision. Her clinical display left little room for doubt, underlining her credentials as a strong contender in the competition.
With this win, Priya advances to the next round, where she is set to face Chengyu Yang, the second seed in the division. The upcoming bout is expected to test Priya’s abilities at a higher level, promising a closely fought encounter between two top competitors.
In contrast, the men’s 55kg category saw a heartbreakingly close result for India. Jadumani Singh Mandengbam went toe-to-toe with Japan’s top seed Rui Yamaguchi in one of the most intense bouts of the day. Despite his spirited effort, Jadumani fell short in a 2-3 split decision.
Yamaguchi entered the tournament as a strong favourite, backed by an impressive record that includes a silver medal at the Astana event and a bronze at the Boxing World Cup Finals. However, Jadumani showed no signs of intimidation, matching his opponent punch for punch and pushing the contest to the final moments.
The bout remained evenly balanced throughout, with both boxers exchanging sharp combinations and maintaining high intensity. Jadumani’s resilience and determination stood out, even in defeat, earning him recognition for his performance against a highly decorated opponent.
While the results reflected contrasting outcomes, India’s campaign on the day highlighted both promise and fighting spirit. Priya’s emphatic victory strengthens hopes of a deep run in the women’s draw, while Jadumani’s narrow loss demonstrated that Indian boxers are capable of challenging the very best on the continental stage.
