Haryana Steelers secured their maiden Pro Kabaddi League title as they lifted the 11th season title after beating Patna Pirates by 32-23 at the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex, Balewadi, Pune on Sunday.
Shivam Patare was the star of the show for Haryana Steelers, who finished the league stage at the top after 16 wins in 22 matches, with nine points. Shadloui and Vinay scored seven and six points respectively for the Steelers.
Jaideep Dahiya, the Steelers captain scored two points. On the other hand, Patna Pirates talismans – Devank and Ayan – scored five and three points respectively. Gurdeep scored top-scored with six points for three-time champions but it was not enough.
Meanwhile, Patna Pirates’ tagline is Panna Palat Denge. Speaking at the post-match press conference, Steelers captain Jaideep Dahiya said on his celebration as he gave a send-off to the opposition and gestured as if he was tearing the book’s pages, “Woh thoda yu tha ki woh uss team ne bol rakha tha ki hum panne paltenge, toh maine aise hi bataya ki hum panne nai paltenge, hum kitaab hi phaad denge (laughs).” (The opponent team said they will turn the pages, so I said I’ll tear your entire book itself)
Dahiya revealed he had earlier decided that he will go for the final raid.
“I had decided before itself that I will go in for the last raid, and I will show them what revenge means.”
In the final ceremony, Dahiya copied Indian cricket captain Rohit Sharma’s celebration. The Steelers skipper made a robotic walk towards his teammates after collecting the trophy as Rohit had done the same after winning the T20 World Cup 2024 in Barbados.
Dahiya concluded, “Rohit Sharma lifted it the same way, even in football tournaments we have seen, so yes that was the reason for the way we lifted the trophy.”
