India’s Mirabai Chanu stands a chance to get a Gold medal as it has been reported that China’s Zhihui Huo, who won Gold medal in the 49 kg category will be tested by the Anti doping authorities. If Huo fails to clear the test, the Gold medal will be awarded to India. It has been reported that Huo has been asked to stay in Tokyo and she will be tested.
“She has been asked to stay in Tokyo and the test will be done. The test is definitely happening,” a source in the know of developments told ANI.
Meanwhile, Hou lifted a total of 210 kgs and created a new Olympic record. On the other hand, Chanu lifted 87 kgs in snatch whereas she lifted 115 kgs in clean and jerk. Thus, the Manipur-born Indian lifted a total of 202 kgs and bagged the Silver medal to create history for India.
Indonesia’s Windy Cantika Aisah grabbed bronze with a total of 194kg.
On the other hand, Mirabai Chanu was delighted after she opened India’s account in the ongoing Tokyo Olympics.
Chanu said while talking to News 19 Lokmat, “I cannot explain in words how happy I’m feeling. I am feeling very proud, it’s our second medal in weightlifting. I want to thank the federation, my coach, family and all support system,” the 26-year-old said in an exclusive chat.
“I have worked quite hard for this and made sacrifices. My target was to win a medal at Tokyo Olympics,” Mirabai said.
Chanu became the first Indian female athlete to win a medal at the Olympics in Weightlifting after Karnam Malleshwari won Bronze in Sydney 2000 Games. Thus, it is a special achievement for the 26-year old weightlifter as she has made the whole of the country proud of her feat.
