Germany’s Tennis sensation Alexander Zverev is set to replace Roger Federer as the World No. 6 after the completion of the 2021 Miami Open. The Swiss maestro will drop 50% of his 1000 points from the 2019 title. Zverev will leapfrog Federer irrespective of his performance in the Miami Open. The German recently won the Mexican Open 2021, which was his 14th ATP title.
Zverev defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final of the tournament in straight sets by 6-4, 7-6 (7-3). Furthermore, this was the sixth consecutive year when Zverev has won at least one title in a single season between 2016-2021.
Meanwhile, Alexander Zverev and Russia’s Andrey Rublev had criticized the new ATP rankings system after they were ranked below Roger Federer, who has played a solitary tournament (Qatar Open) in the ongoing 2021 season.
In fact, Rublev will also have a chance to surpass Roger Federer in the rankings but he will need to go all the way in the upcoming Miami Open 2021, which will begin from March 22.
If the 23-year old Rublev goes on to win the Miami Open, then the rankings will read as Zverev – 6th, Rublev – 7th, and Federer – 8th. Zverev will be seeded third whereas Rublev will seeded fourth for the Miami Open.
On the other hand, the newly ranked World N0. 2 Daniil Medvedev will be the top seed for the event. Medvedev will be one of the favourites for the event and he will aim to go for the title.
Medvedev will also aim to add some more points to his bag and get close to Novak Djokovic’s tally, who has a mammoth 12003 rating points. Djokovic has pull out of the Miami Open to spend more time with family.
