Former World no.1 Andre Agassi has showered praise on Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz ahead of the Indian Wells. Sinner and Alcaraz have shared the last nine slams and there is no doubt that they are currently at the peak of their powers.
While Alcaraz has won the last five slams, Sinner has won the four Majors. Alcaraz recently won the Australian Open after beating Novak Djokovic whereas Sinner was knocked out in the semifinals by the Serbian.
Agassi said Sinner is one of the best ball hitters of the game.
Speaking to New Balls Please!, Agassi said: “If we start with Sinner he is arguably one of the best ball strikers in the history of the game.
“He moves ridiculously well and is incredibly powerful from corners, you never know when you have him behind in a point.
“You think when you hit a good shot to the corner and he is on the full run you should be able to take over the tennis court, but he can still hurt you.”
The American said Sinner’s aggressive game hardly gives a chance to the opponent.
“Then when he is on top of a point he is always playing downhill. He is playing 85% swings to big targets and controlling it, so it feels like there is very little risk.
“It’s like you are swimming in the oceans and he just throws a wet blanket on you, there’s nowhere to go. If he’s on offence there’s nowhere to go and if he’s on defence you still have to worry.”
On the other hand, Agassi believes Alcaraz is the perfect mixture of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic as he has the qualities of the trio.
“Then with Alcaraz you have someone who is like the big three in one person. He moves and defends like Novak, he has the hands and touch like Federer and the RPM’s and pace of Nadal all in one person.”
However, Agassi admitted that Alcaraz’s biggest strength can also be his weakness as he has too many options on the court.
“Sometimes his biggest issue is too many choices on a tennis court but they have definitely separated themselves,” admitted Agassi.
Alcaraz and Sinner will both be seen in action in the upcoming Indian Wells Masters.
