Carlos Alcaraz beats Lorenzo Musetti to win first Monte-Carlo title

    April 14, 2025

Carlos Alcaraz defeated Lorenzo Musetti by 3-6, 6-1, 6-0 to win his maiden Monte-Carlo title on Sunday. This is the Spaniard’s sixth ATP 1000 Masters title on the tour.

The 21-year-old brought his best to the court and didn’t allow the Italian to settle in the last two sets. Musetti was clearly struggling physically after playing long matches in the week.

Both players broke each other’s serve in the first two games of the opening set before the Italian took charge to take the lead as he once again broke the Spaniard’s serve in the fourth game.

However, Alcaraz was able to get the job done in the next two sets.

”It is not the way I would have wanted to win a match,” Alcaraz said. “Thinking about Lorenzo, he has been through a tough week, played long matches. I feel sorry for him. It is one of his best results, ending up like this is not easy. Hopefully it is nothing serious and he will be 100 per cent soon.”

The four-time Grand Slam champion shared his delight after winning his first crown in Monaco.

”I am really happy to win Monte-Carlo for the first time. It has been a really difficult week with a lot of difficult situations,” Alcaraz said. “I am proud with how I dealt with everything. It has been a difficult month for me, so coming here and seeing the hard work pay off makes me happy.”

Alcaraz defeated players like Francisco Cerundolo, Arthur Fils, Daniel Altmaier, and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina to go all the way in Monte-Carlo.

Alcaraz will climb to No. 2 in the PIF ATP Rankings on Monday following his victory, leapfrogging Alexander Zverev.
