World No.1 Carlos Alcaraz continued his solid form, beating Cameron Norrie in the Indian Wells quarterfinals on Thursday. The top seed registered a 6-3, 6-4 victory against the Brit, who had beaten him in Paris last year. Alcaraz now has a 16-0 record in the ongoing season.
The Spaniard admitted he struggles a lot to pick Norrie’s style of play on the court and it is always tough for him to play against the Briton. However, the youngster was happy with his level on the court.
“I struggle a lot with his style,” Alcaraz said of Norrie in his on-court interview. “Every time I play against him it’s always really tough for me. It’s a little bit confusing with his style, his [heavy] topspin forehand, super high. And then the backhand, really flat and really low. Sometimes it’s tricky to play against him. I’m finding the right shot. I played well. I played solid. I played aggressively when I could. I’m happy to play this level.”
The seven-time Slam champion said Tennis is all about picking the right shot in a fraction of a second.
“Tennis is about choosing the right shot in about half a second,” said Alcaraz, who finished with 19 forehand winners. “Sometimes I just miss the shot because I didn’t choose the right one. In my mind, I have like seven, five options, sometimes it’s tricky for me to pick the right one.”
Alcaraz leads Norrie 6-3 in their Lexus ATP Head2Head series. The Spaniard will next play against Daniil Medvedev in the semi-finals on Friday. Alcaraz has a 6-2 W-L record against the Russian.
