Novak Djokovic admitted Carlos Alcaraz was the better player than him and he felt inferior on the court after his straight-set loss in the Wimbledon 2024 final. The Spaniard registered a 6-2, 6-2, 7-6 win in the summit clash against the Serbian at Centre Court on Sunday.
The youngster was able to dominate from the get-go and didn’t give an inch to Djokovic in the final. This was the back-to-back Wimbledon title for Carlos Alcaraz and he also became the sixth player in the Open Era to win the double of Roland Garros and Wimbledon.
Alcaraz won the opening two sets by earning two breaks of serves and dominated the 24-time Slam champion.
“The way I felt on the court today against him, I was inferior on the court. He was a better player. That’s it. He played every single shot better than I did. I don’t think I could’ve done much more… he wasn’t allowing me to have free points on my serve,” Djokovic said in the post-match press conference.
The Serb admitted Alcaraz played with a lot of variety and he didn’t have many answers to the questions he asked.
“He played with a lot of variety. I’ve never seen him serve that way. 136. I’ve never seen him serve that fast. He must’ve had a really good serving practice day yesterday. He really outplayed me… he was better than me in every aspect of the game,” Djokovic added.
Alcaraz was able to tick the right boxes in the all-important final and there is no doubt that he was the better player by a country mile. Djokovic, on the other hand, could not bring his A-game in the first two sets and it led to his downfall.
