Carlos Alcaraz reveals how he overcame his shock loss to Taylor Fritz to end Laver Cup run with a win

Team Europe’s Carlos Alcaraz admitted it was a tough pill to swallow after he suffered a straight set loss against Team World’s Taylor Fritz on the second day of the Laver Cup. The American registered a thumping 6-3, 6-2 win against the US Open champion.

The Spaniard said it was a tough night for him after he suffered a shock loss. However, Alcaraz was able to bounce back stronger on the third and final day of the tournament, claiming a 7-6, 6-1 win in the doubles event. Alcaraz had teamed up with Casper Ruud and the pair defeated Alex Michelsen and Reilly Opelka.

Furthermore, Alcaraz kept Team Europe’s hopes alive after a resounding 6-2, 6-1 win against Argentina’s Francisco Cerundolo. But Team World won its third Laver Cup since 2022, recovering from a first-day deficit and defeating Team Europe, 15–9.

“Well, last night was tough. It was a tough night. It was a tough day with the loses, but you know, normally when you lose in a tournament, you are out of the tournament. Here you lose, and you have another chance to be better. You have another chance to help the team with the points,” said Carlos Alcaraz, via ASAP Sports.

“I think I just came back, and I played such a great tennis today in the doubles and on singles. Yeah, if it was tied, I was ready. If the team had been a discussion with the team who was going to play the doubles, but if the team was needed, I mean, I was there and ready to play the doubles.”

Alcaraz revealed he could not practice enough before his match against Fritz as there was a solitary court for both teams.

“I think before a tournament, before the first match you have to practice. You have to play sets. You have to play points. Here, as I said, having just one court to both teams, and we are seven in the team to both teams, I barely practiced one hour per day, which for me I’m not used to do that.”

Alcaraz will next take part in the Japan Open.
