The World No. 1 Tennis player Novak Djokovic has had another fantastic season as he ticked the right boxes. Djokovic recently equalled former legend Pete Sampras’ record of finishing the year as the number one Tennis player for the sixth time in his glorious career.
After achieving the milestone, Djokovic credited his fans, team and family, who have always believed in his abilities. However, the Serb revealed that he has mixed emotions given the current state of the whole world due to coronavirus pandemic.
Djokovic stated that his heart goes to all the people who have suffered from the virus. Meanwhile, the talisman received the award before his opening round match of ATP Tour finals in London against Diego Schwartzman.
Djokovic tweeted, “Even though I’m standing by myself here, this trophy equally belongs to all my family, #TeamDjokovic, #NoleFam……and people who always believed in me and tirelessly supported me on this wonderful journey. I am very happy to celebrate another big milestone here in London.”
“I also have mixed emotions since there are a lot of people going through hardship currently around the world. My heart goes out to all of them with a prayer that everyone is healthy and happy.”
Meanwhile, Djokovic defeated Diego Schwartzman in straight sets by 6-3, 6-2 and had a perfect start to ATP finals. On the other hand, Djokovic hasn’t won the year-end title in the last four years. The Serbian won his last ATP Tour finals back in 2015 when he defeated Roger Federer in straight sets.
Consequently, Djokovic will look to continue his good form and clinch another title in the season. Djokovic is also chasing Roger Federer’s record of spending most weeks at the numero uno position and he would be able to break it if he stays at the top of the rankings till the first week of March 2021.
