Greece’s young Tennis sensation Stefanos Tsitsipas has faith in his game that he will soon be holding a Grand slam trophy. Tsitsipas lost the Roland Garros final against the World No.1 by 6-7 (6/8), 2-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-4 at Philippe-Chartier court on Sunday.
The Greek battled hard for more than four hours but Djokovic was up to the task. In fact, Tsitsipas stunned the Serbian by winning the first two sets but Djokovic bounced back in style to win the next three sets and clinch his 19th major title.
Tsitsipas has no regrets of not winning his maiden slam title as he stated that he gave everything he had on the court. The 22-year old gave his best and even troubled Djokovic in the first two sets. However, Tsitsipas couldn’t take the advantage as Djokovic showed his experience and got back into the game.
“I don’t think I have regrets. Could have easily cried, but I see no reason for me crying because I tried everything. I couldn’t come up with anything better,” he admitted.
Tsitsipas added that one has to win three sets to win the game and he learned the hard lesson after going down to Djokovic.
“What I learned today is that no matter what, in order for the match to be finished, you have to win three sets and not two,” he said. “Two sets doesn’t really mean anything. It’s still one away from winning the entire match.”
The Greek is only 22 years old and has a bright future ahead of him. He has already impressed with his skills and he has shown the calibre to go a long way in his career. Tsitsipas added that he has the confidence in his game and there is no reason that he won’t win a Grand slam trophy one day if he continues to play like this.
“I believe, yes, I’m able to play for titles like this. Despite my loss today, I have faith in my game,” he said.
“I very much believe I can get to that point very soon. I was close today. Every opponent is difficult. There’s a small difference between the player I played today and the ones from before.
“But I think with the same attitude I see no reason for me not to be holding that trophy one day.”
