US Open champion Emma Raducano has stated that she wants to make the right decision on selecting her new coach. Raducano decided to part ways with her former coach Andrew Richardson after creating history to win her first major title at the Flushing Meadows. The young sensation decided not to extend the short-term arrangement.
Meanwhile, the prodigy player will be seen in action for the first time in the upcoming Indian Wells after winning the US Open. Raducanu revealed that she is looking for a new coach while she is training under the tutelage of LTA coach Jeremy Bates (former British no.1) to prepare herself for Indian Wells.
“Jeremy [Bates] is part of women’s tennis at the LTA so while he’s here he’s helping me out,” Raducanu said ahead of the California-based event. “But going forwards I’m just going to wait and find the right person, I’m not going to rush into anything. “I want to make sure I make the right decision.
“Even though I’m quite young I’ve got a lot of experience banked and at the end of the day you’re out there on your own and you have to be your own coach on the court, so I’m pretty comfortable.”
In fact, despite stunning everyone with her achievement at the US Open, Emma added that nothing has changed for her and she will try not to put herself under pressure with extra thoughts.
“I don’t really want to change anything,” the British sensation explained. “What got me to this point is not thinking anything differently so if I put additional thoughts in my head then that will just create a problem I think. I’m just going to keep going about my business and staying the same.”
The 18-year-old’s first match will be against world No 71 Maria Camila Osorio from Colombia or Aliaksandra Sasnovich on Friday. If she wins, she will take on Simona Halep in the third round.
