Jamie Murray, Andy Murray’s brother, reckons Novak Djokovic’s best chance of winning a record-breaking 25th Grand Slam is at Wimbledon. Djokovic once again came close to winning his 25th Slam but could not cross the last hurdle against Carlos Alcaraz. The Spaniard registered a four-set win at the Rod Laver Arena on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the Serbian has won the SW19 championship on seven occasions in his glorious career and one would imagine his best chance of going past Margaret Court’s record of 24 Majors is at Wimbledon.
Speaking about Djokovic’s chances of winning an eighth title in London, Murray said on TNT Sports: “Wimbledon, I would probably have said would have been his best chance. At the start of the season, I would have been ring fencing that as his best opportunity.
“But I am sure he will be disappointed not to have got over the line here, especially after his heroic effort of beating Sinner. He knows he is not going to be around forever and his level is slowly declining.
“I still think he had to beat Sinner. I don’t really care if he played 20 hours or 10 hours tennis. He still had to get past Sinner and Alcaraz and that is going to be the ultimate challenge for so many of these players over the next four or five years.
“If we want a new Slam winner, it’s how do we overcome those guys back to back and Novak unfortunately for him couldn’t do it. But I think Wimbledon he will be there and he will have another crack at it.”
Djokovic last won the Wimbledon title in 2022. He also qualified for the summit clash of the championships in 2023 but suffered a five-set loss against Carlos Alcaraz.
