Jannik Sinner, the World No.1, officially ended his 2026 season after announcing that he is undergoing a course of treatment on his injured knee. The Italian made the announcement in a social media video on Tuesday.
Sinner has not competed on the tour after winning his fifth Grand Slam title at Wimbledon in July. The Italian had earlier decided to miss the hard-court American swing, including the US Open and also the Asian swing.
Sinner revealed he and his medical team have decided treatment was the best course of action as he looks to protect his long-term career.
“Me, together with the doctors, have decided that I need a course of treatment on my knee, which means that the 2026 season is officially over,” Sinner said on social media. “The last couple of years, especially the ending in Turin, gave me so many beautiful feelings and emotions, which this year is going to be different.
“But at the moment, I also need to think about my long-term career. I will do everything possible to get back to 100 per cent. I will thank you in advance for your support and hope to see you very, very soon on court again.”
Sinner is the two-time reigning champion at the Nitto ATP Finals, where he did not drop a set across his runs in Turin in 2024 and 2025 but he won’t be able to take part in the tournament this time.
Earlier in the ongoing season, Sinner won five straight ATP Masters 1000 titles in Indian Wells, Miami, Monte-Carlo, Madrid and Rome to complete the Career Golden Masters. However, he was stunned early at the Roland Garros by Juan Manuel Cerundolo in the second round.
