Novak Djokovic has confirmed that he will return to the ATP tour action at the Cincinnati Open ahead of the all-important US Open. Djokovic has decided to opt out of the Canadian Open and he hasn’t played in Montreal since 2019.

The Serbian recently played at the Wimbledon but suffered a straight-set loss against eventual champion, Jannik Sinner in the semifinal clash. 

Djokovic has been really selective in picking tournaments in the last year or so and he has mostly played in Majors.

Djokovic shared the following message on Instagram, “Hello everyone, I’m happy to announce that I’m coming to [the] Cincinnati Open this year,” he said.

“First time since 2023, when I played one of the best best-of-three finals of the Masters 1000 event in my career.

“I can’t wait to come back and perform in front of all of you.

“I’m very excited to see the fans, tennis fans around the world who are going to be present at that tournament. See you soon.”

Meanwhile, Djokovic is a three-time champion at Cincinnati. He last won the title in 2023, earning a thrilling win against Carlos Alcaraz in the summit clash. The Serb registered a 5-7, 7-6, 7-6 win against the Spaniard after the latter had won against him in the Wimbledon final.

Earlier in the ongoing season, Djokovic suffered a loss against Carlos Alcaraz in the final of the Australian Open after winning the semifinal clash against Jannik Sinner.

Djokovic was beaten by Joao Fonseca in the third round at Roland Garros in Paris. He suffered a first-round loss at the Italian Open and also could not go deep at the Indian Wells Masters.

Djokovic is still searching for his elusive 25th Slam title.
