Novak Djokovic is superhuman, he can win Golden slam – Mats Wilander

    June 23, 2021

Former World No. 1 Mats Wilander has stated that Novak Djokovic is superhuman and he can go on to win a Golden slam in the ongoing season. Djokovic has already won Australian Open as well as French Open in 2021 and with Rafael Nadal pulling himself out of Tokyo Olympics and Wimbledon whereas Roger Federer in the twilight of his career, the World No.1 will be favourite for the upcoming two events.

Djokovic will become the first Male player to achieve a Golden slam in a single season (all four major titles and Olympic gold medal) if he goes on to win in Wimbledon, Tokyo and US Open. Germany’s legend Steffi Graf is the only Tennis player to achieve this glorious milestone.

Djokovic is playing at the top of his game as well as his fitness and has a great chance of creating history. The Serbian is fit as a fiddle and it will be a difficult task for other players to put a break on him if he gets going in the major events.

“Novak can achieve a Golden Slam, but it remains to be seen how strong he will come to New York if he wins Wimbledon and the Olympic Games. He wants to show that he is a superman and, in fact, I believe he is. So he needs to keep playing matches to maintain maximum intensity,” Mats Wilander, who is a seven-time Grand slam champion, said.

Meanwhile, since the start of the Open era in 1968, 12 players have won all four Major titles and an Olympic gold medal, with Rafael Nadal and Andre Agassi achieving the same in men’s singles. Ergo, Djokovic looks all set to join the elite list if he goes on to win an Olympic Gold medal for Serbia.

Djokovic is in prime form and recently defeated Rafael Nadal in the epic semi final clash at Roland Garros. Subsequently, he went on to beat Stefanos Tsitsipas in the thrilling five-setter in the final to claim his 19th Major title.
