Novak Djokovic bagged another record on the tour, claiming his 100th Wimbeldon win against compatriot Miomir Kecmanovic by 6-3, 6-0, 6-4 to move into the fourth round of the grass Slam for the 17th time in his career.
The Serbian looked in full control from the get-go as he broke Kecmanovic’s serve in the eighth game of the opening set and wrapped up the match against his countryman in one hour and 47 minutes. Djokovic improved to 4-0 in the pair’s Lexus ATP Head2Head series and 8-0 against countrymen at Slams. Djokovic is only five wins from matching Roger Federer’s record of 105 wins at SW19.
“I am very grateful, privileged to be in the position that I am,” Djokovic said when asked about his 100th win. “I have said it many times. Tennis made me who I am. It has given me things in life that I can experience. I try not to take anything for granted, particularly at this age. I’m still going strong, trying to compete with the young players and do some slides and some splits on the court.
“Wimbledon is a favourite tournament and dream tournament of not just myself but probably the majority of tennis players. Growing up most of the kids dream of playing here and winning here and I am blessed to have done it multiple times. Any history that I make at my favourite tournament, I am blessed.”
The veteran admitted it is never easy to play against Kecmanovic.
“It is never easy playing a friend,” Djokovic said on Kecmanovic. “Miomir is a super nice guy. Someone that I have known for many years, faced each other on different surfaces. More than rivals and competitors, we are friends and teammates.”
Djokovic will face Australia’s Alex de Minaur in the round of 16 on Monday.
