The World No. 2 Rafael Nadal has dominated the Tennis world in the last 15 years. Nadal has always been consistent and he has reaped rewards for his hard work. The Spaniard recently won his 20th slam title when he won his 13th French Open title in 2020 and thus also equalled Roger Federer’s tally.
Now, Nadal has added another feather in his illustrious cap as he has become the first player to complete 800 consecutive weeks in the top 10 rankings. Nadal entered the top 10 rankings in April 2005 and since then he hasn’t looked back.
The left-hander has been able to remain in the top 10 for 800 straight weeks, which is almost equal to 5600 days. In fact, Nadal had leapfrogged Jimmy Connors of remaining in the top 10 rankings for 789 successive weeks in November 2020.
Former World Number one Roger Federer is at the third place as he remained in the top 10 rankings for 734 consecutive weeks. Former Czech American player Ivan Lendl has spent 619 consecutive weeks in the top 10 rankings. Former World No.1 Pete Sampras spent a total of 565 consecutive weeks in the top rankings.
Meanwhile, Rafael Nadal became the World No. 1 player for the first time in August 2008 when he replaced Roger Federer, who had spent a total of 237 straight weeks at the numero uno position. Nadal remained at number one for consecutive 209 weeks whereas he has spent a total of 361 consecutive weeks as the number two player. The Spaniard was on third, fourth, and fifth place for 57, 54, and 66 weeks respectively.
Nadal is currently the number two player in the ATP rankings with 9850 points. Nadal will be seen in action in the upcoming Australian Open, which will begin from February 8.
