Former British Tennis player Tim Henman feels World No. 2 Rafael Nadal has got a very good chance of winning the upcoming ATP finals. Nadal doesn’t have the best of records indoors but Henman reckons the Spaniard can go all the way in the tournament.
Meanwhile, Nadal was once again able to show his class in the French Open as he had defeated Novak Djokovic in straight sets. This was the 20th Grand slam title for Nadal as equalled Federer’s tally. Furthermore, Nadal recently won his 1000 match and became the fourth player to achieve the milestone.
Thus, the 34-year old Spaniard is in prime form and he would be hungry to win in London in the upcoming ATP finals. In fact, Nadal has never won the ATP finals despite making it to the final of the competition on two occasions and he would look to turn the tables.
Meanwhile, ATP finals is the last Tennis event of the season and Nadal would look to add another title to his bag.
In fact, the Big Three haven’t won the ATP finals in the last four years. Roger Federer (2010-11) and Novak Djokovic (2012-15) had won for straight six years. With no Federer in this season, all the eyes will be on Djokovic and Nadal.
“When you set the bar so high, when you look at his record indoors and sort of say, “Oh, it’s not too good”,” said Henman. He continued, “But he’s won a Masters series indoors, he’s been in the final of the ATP Finals on two occasions, I think. He’s still got a very good chance.”
Meanwhile, players like Alexander Zverev, defending champion Stefanos Tsitispas, Daniil Medvedev and Andrey Rublev will be the players to watch out for in the event. Henman added Nadal may not be a favourite but he will fancy his chances.
Henman concluded, “I don’t think he’s the favourite this coming tournament but he’ll still fancy his chances if he’s fit and healthy.”
The Nitto ATP finals will begin from November 15.
