Serena Williams’ former coach Rick Macci has backed Carlos Alcaraz to bounce back strongly after recovering from a wrist injury. The American said the Spaniard will be under scrutiny once he returns to the tour after recuperating from injury.
Alcaraz has missed crucial tournaments of the season, including the French Open and Wimbledon. The Spaniard has also pulled out of the Canadian Open.
Earlier in the season, Alcaraz won the Australian Open and became the youngest to complete a Career Grand Slam. However, a wrist injury has put him on the back foot.
Rick Macci wrote in a post on X, “Carlos will be pepper sprayed from every angle and every microscopic misstep on everything he does. The ball speed. The consistency. The rpms. The movement. The mindset on and on and on.”
“This will take a while for him to dominate and smile but I feel adversity makes greatness stronger and last longer. The Spanish Magician soon will be in full flight, and for opponents, it is good night.@carlosalcaraz”
On the other hand, Alcaraz believes life will have something special for him when he returns to the court.
Speaking at the Princess of Girona Foundation’s awards ceremony in Spain in May, Alcaraz said, “I’m watching the results from home, watching my rivals compete, the tournaments I wish I could be playing in but can’t. Everything happens for a reason. I believe it’s fate, and that life has something special for me when I return, something beautiful.”
The seven-time Slam champion also credited his family for the unwavering support they have given him over the years.
“Now I realise that what really matters is my family, who have always been there to support me; they never forced me to play tennis but always gave me the choice and that helped me continue to enjoy it and never feel stressed. They’re the reason I’m the person I’m today.”
Alcaraz is yet to confirm his participation in the US Open.
