As sporting activities were halted due to the deadly coronavirus pandemic, India tennis star, Sania Mirza has noted that the celebration of this year’s Eid-El-Fitr is different for so many reasons.
The pandemic has left a lot of athletes without a job while many under the lower cadre have shown their frustration.
In her Eid-El-Fitr greeting message to the Muslim faithfuls, which some of them are her followers, the mother of one noted that the celebration is different this time around due to countless reasons, with coronavirus being one of the top reasons.
The Muslims marked Eid on Monday, after the end of the holy month of Ramadan. Sania in her message, therefore, urged everyone to pray for those who had been badly hit by the COVID-19 crisis and those who recently died in a plane crash in Karachi, Pakistan.
This was stated on her Twitter page on Monday. She also urged people to have the needy more in their mind due to the unfortunate situation that they are facing.
She pointed out that they are fighting for their lives, noting that many of them have lost their lives and livelihood to the pandemic, plane crash amongst others.
While urging people to come together for prayer during the Eid, Sania revealed that she is staying home for the celebration with and for her loved ones. She, therefore, urged others to do the same.
Recall that Sania after the delivery of her child returned to the court early this year to win the Hobart International in January.
The 33-year-old later played an integral role in India’s historic playoff qualification for the Fed Cup.
This comeback which had been described as stunning, is now being halted by the lack of action in tennis calendar due to COVID-19.
She had even planned to participate at Indian Wells before it was postponed as the pandemic was taking its toll on nations across the world then.
