Toni Nadal says Carlos Alcaraz has weaker opponents on tour

Rafael Nadal’s former coach and uncle Toni Nadal believes Carlos Alcaraz has weaker opponents despite Jannik Sinner threat. Toni said Alcaraz and Sinner are head and shoulders above the rest of the pack. The duo has also shared the last eight Slams between them.

However, the Spaniard coach said it was not the case when his nephew was playing on the tour. Nadal shared an epic rivalry with Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer. Furthermore, players like Stan Wawrinka, Tsonga, Juan del Potro and Andy Murray always posed a difficult challenge.

Meanwhile, World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz has 12,050 official points under his belt, Sinner, the second-ranked player in the PIF ATP rankings, has 11,500 points. The World No.3 Alexander Zverev has 5160 points in his bag.

Alcaraz has a 10-6 Win-Loss record in head-to-head battle against Sinner. 

Toni Nadal said on Punto de Break, “He has an advantage that players from a few years ago didn’t have: their rivals are a little weaker, less committed than those of a few years ago. He has a great rival that is Jannik Sinner, it is true, one who is always present, but the others have fallen by the way,”

“I remember perfectly that in Rafael’s time, in addition to Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer, there were other great players such as Andy Murray, Juan Martín del Potro, David Ferrer or Stan Wawrinka, to name a few. These players were always there. On the current tour, it seems that our direct rivals have abandoned us.”

Meanwhile, Alcaraz has won six Slams in his young career and Toni said the Spaniard has everything to succeed at the top level.

He concluded, “Everyone is seeing how much he’s achieving, his athletic attributes are incredible, he truly has everything he needs to succeed.”
