World Tennis League 2022: I am very excited to take part in the tournament – Novak Djokovic

21-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic is excited to take part in the ongoing World Tennis League in Dubai. Djokovic, who is part of Team Falcons, is looking forward to the event with a lot of excitement.

Djokovic is expected to be in action on Tuesday at the Coca-Cola Arena against Alexander Zverev, who will represent the Hawks.

“I’m very excited to anticipate what is going to be these next five days for us in the tournament, with music and entertainment and sports and tennis. I’m looking forward to it,” Djokovic told Dubai Sports Channel.

Meanwhile, the inaugural edition of the World Tennis League got off to a rollicking start. 2019 US Open champion Bianca Andreescu and Nick Kyrgios defeated Paris Masters winner and former World no.5 Eugenie Bouchard 6-2, 6-3 on Monday.

“I thought the chemistry was great right from the start,” said Canadian Andreescu.

“We’re both pretty outgoing people so I thought that we’re going to bring great energy and we played very well. I think we both have great hands. I think he’s rubbing off on me a little bit on the serve and on the volleys, so hopefully we can keep it going.”

Meanwhile, Nick Kyrgios is known to excel in doubles as he had earlier won the Australian Open 2022 doubles title with his good friend Thanasi Kokkinakis. Kyrgios feels World Tennis League is providing a new experience to tennis fans as well as the players.

“It’s a new experience for the fans and the players. There aren’t many events where I can be sitting next to Rohan Bopanna and Bianca Andreescu, so that’s pretty cool. It gives tennis a bit of a different dynamic,” said the 22nd-ranked Kyrgios.

On the other hand, Iga Swiatek of the Kites defeated Caroline Garcia of the Eagles by 6-3, 6-4.

“Truth be told I wasn’t counting games. I’m pretty happy I’m able to play here and also focus on some other stuff than usual during matches, because I can change something up in my tactics or work on something else or just implement the stuff I’ve been working on during preseason,” said Swiatek after the win.

“The score isn’t the most important thing here, mostly it’s fun and learning. So I’m happy I played a solid game.”
