Doc Rivers is one of the best basketball coaches of the last two decades or so. Rivers is known to get the best out of the players and he did a fine job for Boston Celtics and LA Clippers. Rivers has a great motivation to keep his players on track and he has been doing a fine job for the Philadelphia 76ers.
The results are palpable as the 76ers have played at the top of their game in the ongoing season. Philly has played 24 matches in the ongoing season out of which they have won 17 games whereas they have lost only seven. Hence, they occupy the numero uno position in the Eastern Conference standings.
Doc Rivers has now shed light on his move to Philadelphia 76ers after he was sacked as chief coach of the LA Clippers in the previous season.
Rivers stated that the Philly seemed interesting to him because of players like Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid.
He said while talking to All the Smoke podcast, “The Philly job was just so interesting to me because of Ben and Joel. I knew Tobias was there, and I’d coached him. And I thought I could get to him as well.”
Rivers added that the 76ers needed a cultural change in their team and he wanted to bring about that change.
“So, you know, this group, it just needed a change like culture. That just wasn’t as much as on the floor. We had to change just the culture all around on the floor, in the office, in our development, everything.”
The head coach gave credit to general manager Elton Brand and the President of basketball operations, Daryl Morey for backing him to the hilt.
“They allowed me to come in and do that. Elton at the start, who was the main guy and didn’t we bring in Darryl so just having that group behind me and allow me to do the things that I need to do that I think helps us win because they’ve been amazing.”
The 76ers defeated Brooklyn Nets on Sunday by 124-108 as Joel Embiid top-scored with 33 points. Philadelphia will next face Sacramento Kings on Wednesday.
