Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan is delighted to note that Rishabh Pant is finishing matches for Delhi Capitals since he has been given the responsibility to lead the franchise.
Pant has matured as a batsman and he has been playing according to the match situation since he has taken over the Delhi Capitals’ captaincy.
The wicket-keeper batsman has led from the front and he looks confident as a leader. Pant scored an unbeaten knock of 35 runs off just 21 balls to take his team over the line against Sunrisers Hyderabad at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Wednesday and added the finishing touches.
DC was chasing an under-par score of 135 runs and Pant added 67 runs with Shreyas Iyer to help his team clinch their seventh win of the season and reclaim the top spot in the points table.
Speaking on Star Sports, Pathan said: “Showing maturity, which is what you want to see from a leader, a captain. I am really happy with the way he is batting. I have been a big fan of Rishabh Pant because of the way he plays his shots. The way he plays on the leg side, the way he has improved his off-side play as well. Really good to see the way he has gone about his business. Most importantly he is finishing the games for his team since he started captaining. That’s what you want from your captain.”
Pant has grown in confidence in the recent past and he is doing a fine job as a leader. In fact, the Delhi Capitals management has decided to retain Pant as captain despite Shreyas Iyer has recovered from a shoulder injury.
Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals bowlers were right on the money against Sunrisers Hyderabad as they restricted the opposition to a below-par score of 134 runs. Anrich Nortje was the pick of the bowlers as he picked two wickets and conceded only 12 runs in his four overs. Thus, the gun fast bowler, who has impressed with his express pace, was adjudged the Player of the match.
Delhi Capitals will aim to continue the good show and Pant will look to keep leading with aplomb. The Rishabh Pant-led team will next face Rajasthan Royals at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi on 25th September.
