South Africa’s ace paceman Dale Steyn breathed down the neck of the best batsmen of his era. Steyn, who had smooth action, had the skills of troubling the world-class batters with his swing and pace. The Proteas fast bowler, who had called it a day on his Test career last year, was generally right on the money.
Steyn was always up for a battle and he never gave an inch to the batsmen. Meanwhile, there were some world-class batsmen who were hard to get out and Steyn named five best batters he ever played against. The pacer has named two Indian batsmen in this list.
The right-arm pacer selected former Australian captain Ricky Ponting, India legendary batsmen, Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid, England’s Kevin Pietersen and West Indies Chris Gayle in the list.
Steyn held a Q & A session on Twitter and one of the fans asked him the best batsman he has ever played against. Steyn wrote, “They all good ey! Ponting was prime, Sachin was a wall, Dravid, Gayle, KP, they were all so good”!
Dale Steyn vs Sachin Tendulkar.
Sachin is regarded as one of the best batsmen to have ever embraced the game. Steyn dismissed Tendulkar on three occasions in the Test fold whereas the former legendary batsman scored 149 runs versus Steyn.
Dale Steyn vs Rahul Dravid.
Dravid was one of the most difficult batsmen to bowl to as he was solid in his defence and knew where his off-stump was. Steyn got the better off Dravid on two occasions in the red-ball version.
Dale Steyn vs Kevin Pietersen.
Kevin Pietersen was known to be aggressive in his strokeplay. Steyn was able to dismiss Pietersen on three occasions in the pristine form of the game.
Dale Steyn vs Ricky Ponting.
Ponting is also one of the best batsmen to have ever played the game. Steyn took Ponting’s wicket on four occasions in the multi-day format.
Dale Steyn vs Chris Gayle.
Gayle was well known for his pyrotechnics. The South African pacer dismissed the left-hander three times in his Test career.
