Australian allrounder Cameron Green was up in the Indian Premier League auction for the first time and he bagged a hefty fee as five time champions Mumbai Indians snapped him up as their long term Kieron Pollard replacement. However Green celebrated his IPL selection with a special 5-wicket haul on Boxing day against South Africa in front of a packed Melbourne Cricket ground.
The young allrounder felt that he did not do much to earn such big money at the auction. He feels that Mumbai Indians spilling 17.50 crores does not change much for him and his future goals. He became the highest Australian earner and the second highest earner in the IPL overall with England’s Sam Curran taking over the first spot.
Later Green shared that he did not do much other than putting up his name for the auction. He says the big money signing does not change much for and who he is as a person. “To be fair, I think I didn’t do much to kind of earn that,” ESPNCricinfo quotes Green saying. “I just put my name into the auction, and it just happened. It doesn’t change who I am or how I think and all the confidence I have in my cricket. Hopefully, I didn’t change too much.”
Green revealed that Usman Khawaja had a special praise for the youngster as he earned his maiden IPL contract. He shared that he isn’t trying to read too much and pay much attention to the IPL news that has come out in the last few days.
“I try and brush it all aside to be fair, I’m not trying to read too much into it. Uzzie has been onto me. He basically came up to me and said, ‘I want to just let you know that it’s all very light humour and just because I love you and I’m just so happy for you.’ The boys were really good,” Green opened up on Khawaja and his praises.
The young Aussie allrounder came into the limelight as he scored two half centuries against India ahead of the T20 World Cup which was held in Australia. He was striking at 214.55 in the three game series and people were in disbelief that the youngster was not a part of the Australian squad for the World Cup.
