Delhi Capitals captain Shreyas Iyer is the future of Indian cricket. Iyer has grabbed his opportunities while batting at number four for the national team and he is also doing a fine job while leading DC in the IPL. It was under Iyer’s captaincy that DC were able to qualify for the playoff stages in the previous season after a long gap of six years.
Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer, who has had a quiet IPL 2020 before the match against Kolkata Knight Riders, was at his best at Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Saturday. Iyer was able to hit the ground running and attacked KKR’s spinners with aplomb.
The right-hander bludgeoned an unbeaten knock of 88 runs off just 38 balls with the help of seven fours and six maximums. A perfect start was provided by Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw and Iyer was able to capitalise on the same.
Iyer stated that he is not a gifted player and gave credit to the extra yard of hard work he has put in his batting in the practice and gym sessions.
“It was really necessary for me to take time at the start which I did in the earlier games as well. It was the right time for me to take on the bowlers and then rotate the strike as well after that. Luckily it worked out for me. I know the hard work and the smart work I have put in through my gym sessions, so I wouldn’t say I am a gifted player,” he said in the post match presentation.
“We keep talking about close victories and this was one of them. Really satisfied with the way everyone stepped up.”
Delhi Capitals have played four matches thus far and they have won three matches to sit at the top of the points table. Thus, the Capitals will aim to continue the good form.
It was a fine collective team effort from Delhi Capitals as Prithvi Shaw scored 66 whereas Rishabh Pant added the finishing touches as he scored 38 off just 17 balls to help his team post a mammoth total of 228 runs.
Subsequently, Anrich Nortje scalped three wickets whereas Harshal Patel snared two wickets to restrict KKR to 210.
Delhi Capitals will play their next game against Royal Challengers Bangalore at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on 5th October.
