Sunrisers Hyderabad newly appointed Kane Williamson has revealed that he will discuss David Warner’s return with the team management after the team lost their match against Rajasthan Royals by a big margin of 55 runs at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on Sunday.
SRH surprisingly decided to drop Warner from the final XI against RR as they played Mohammed Nabi in place of their former skipper. Tom Moody, the team’s director for cricket, revealed that Warner was shocked and disappointed after his sacking. Moody also stated that the team decided to drop Warner from the final XI because of the team’s balance.
Warner has thus far struggled to get going in the ongoing season as he has scored 193 runs at an average of 32.13 and a paltry strike rate of 110.28. However, there is no doubt that Warner is one of the best of the T20 batsmen in the world and dropping him from the final XI is a difficult pill to swallow.
In fact, SRH had earlier revealed that they will be changing their overseas player in the coming matches.
“Warner is a world-class player and I’m sure a number of conversations will be had,” Williamson said in the post-match ceremony.
On the other hand, Williamson couldn’t get the best out of his team in the first match as captain in this season. Williamson added that Rajasthan Royals posted a challenging total and it was always going to be difficult for SRH to chase down 221 after Jos Buttler scored a magnificent knock of 124 runs. The Orange Army kept losing wickets at regular intervals and couldn’t build any kind of momentum.
Williamson added, “A tough day. A very competitive total from RR. It was Jos’ day and he was outstanding. With the bat you do need to get a few things to go your way and when you’re losing wickets it makes it all the more harder to chase 220. We have had a lot of challenges over the last three weeks, but we need to make small adjustments and put in improved performances. Jos and Sanju were key, so we wanted Rashid to bowl as many deliveries as possible against them”.
SRH will next play against defending champions Mumbai Indians at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on 4th of May.
