A fine century from Arman Jaffer, unbeaten 73 from Sujit Nayak and four-fer from Mohit Avasthi helped Mumbai defeat Oman by a gargantuan margin of 231 runs in the second ODI at OC Turf 1 on Tuesday and thus the visitors have taken a 2-0 lead in the four-match series.
Oman captain Aaqib Illyas won the toss and decided to bowl first. Yashasvi Jaiswal, who had scored a match-winning knock in the first ODI, was dismissed after scoring a quickfire knock of 27 runs from 21 balls.
Arman Jaffer, who was batting at one down, was able to hit the ground running.
Jaffer, nephew of former Indian opener Wasim Jaffer, played at the top of his game. Jaffer added 83 runs with Chimany Sutar, who scored 37 runs.
The match-changing partnership came when Jaffer and Sujit Nayak added 122 runs for the sixth wicket.
Jaffer scored 122 runs from 114 balls with the help of 11 fours and three sixes whereas Nayak finished with an unbeaten knock of 73 runs off 70 balls with the help of six fours to add the finishing touches for the tourists. Thus, Mumbai were able to post a par score of 300 runs in their 50 overs.
Mohammad Nadeem scalped four wickets for Oman while Nester Dhamba bagged a brace.
On the other hand, Oman got off to a horrid start as Jitendersingh Singh was dismissed on the second ball of the innings by Mohit Avasthi. Oman kept losing wickets at regular intervals and never got the impetus in their batting innings as they collapsed like a pack of cards.
In fact, Mohammad Nadeem (35) and Sohaib Khan (10) were the only two players to reach double digit figures as the hosts were skittled out for a paltry total of 69 runs. Mohit Avasthi snared four wickets whereas Dhrumil Matkar scalped three wickets for Mumbai.
