Australia’s fast bowler Pat Cummins has picked New Zealand’s skipper Kane Williamson, his teammate Steve Smith and India’s captain Virat Kohli as the top batsmen for his perfect Test XI.
All of these three batsmen have been consistent performers in the Test format in the last decade.
Cummins picked Williamson to bat at number three, Smith at four and Kohli at five in his Test XI. Williamson is well known for his solid technique and the flamboyant batsman has scored 7115 runs in 83 Test matches at an impressive average of 54.31. The right-hander is currently the number one Test batsman in ICC Test rankings.
On the other hand, Steve Smith has delivered the goods for Australia in all conditions. It is a tough job for the opposition bowlers to dismiss Smith in the Test format as there is hardly any chink in his armour. Smith has scored 7540 runs in 75 Test matches at a fine average of 61.8. The talisman currently occupies the second place in the ICC Test rankings with 891 rating points.
The Indian skipper Virat Kohli is one of the most consistent batsmen in all the three formats of the game. Kohli has done a fine job for the Indian team in the Test format and he has led from the front. The linchpin has amassed 7490 runs in 91 Test matches at a splendid average of 52.38. Kohli is currently at the fifth place in the ICC Test rankings.
“I would probably have Kane Williamson at No.3, Steve Smith at No.4, maybe Kohli at No.5. In any order, but I would have those three,” said Cummins while answering a fan question on his YouTube channel.
Meanwhile, Williamson and Kohli will be up against one another in the upcoming WTC final at Southampton from June 18.
