Former Indian batting coach Sanjay Bangar reckons Virat Kohli would be highly disappointed after his dismissal in the first innings of the third Test match against Australia. Kohli was dismissed for the umpteenth time when he tried to poke at a delivery that was on the seventh stump line but could only manage an outside edge to wicket-keeper Alex Carey.
Before the third Test match, Kohli was observed leaving a lot of balls outside the off-stump while practicing in the net sessions. However, Kohli could not execute his plans and was lured into a false shot by Australian veteran pacer Josh Hazlewood.
Bangar noted that Kohli got out in the last three innings after receiving a good ball but he brought his own downfall with a poor shot at the Gabba, Brisbane on Monday.
“The last 3 dismissals could be given credit to the bowlers, but this is one which he would be certainly disappointed with because that was a ball that he in fact played before the start of this Test match. The thing that we noticed was that he wanted to leave a lot of balls outside off-stump,” Bangar said on Star Sports.
“So he would be clearly disappointed with that error in his shot-making that was clearly there. These are the balls that any batter would want to hit in the early part of the innings. He looked to defend, but apart from that, this particular dismissal there was a rank wide-ish half-volley, he could have easily let that go in the early part of his innings,” he added.
Barring scoring a century at Perth, Kohli has returned with scores of 5, 7, 11, 3 in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar series against Australia.
Australia posted 445 runs on the board but India was struggling at 51-4 at the end of the third day’s play.
