India captain, Virat Kohli, has highlighted the intensity of the white-ball cricket, saying it is a blessing to play Test cricket for his country.
While noting that nothing comes close to playing the format in an Instagram post, the skipper, who is one of the best batsmen in modern times, has played 86 Tests for India. He has scored 7240 runs, which include 27 hundred and 22 half-centuries. Kholi had also been part of the squad in the ODIs with 248 ODIs and 82 T20Is to his credit, where he had amassed 11867 and 2794 runs, respectively.
According to the latest ICC Test rankings for batsmen, Kohli, who is the present number two batsman, is behind Australia’s Steve Smith.
He had been recently compared by an Indian batting legend Sunil Gavaskar with former West Indies batsman Vivian Richards.
Gavaskar, who used to be referred to as ‘The Little Master’ recalled his encounter with Richards, saying Kohli also bats like he used to do.
The Indian, legend while speaking on Star Sports’ show ‘Winning the Cup — 1983’, said it was challenging to keep the West Indies legend quiet while playing against him.
In analyzing Kholi’s batting style, Gavaskar said, the world number two hitter would on the line use his top hand and score a boundary towards the extra cover region with the same ball. He added that the 31-year-old would also use the bottom hand and score a boundary towards the mid-on and mid-wicket region.
Therefore, he stated that that is why Kohli is considered the No. 1 player because he bats exactly like Richards. He also said former players Gundappa Vishwanath, VVS Laxman, also used to bat like that.
Kohli is expected to have returned to training after over two months of lockdown as coronavirus pandemic hit the globe. He expected to be re-energized for the team to record further success and break more records.
