World Cup 2019: MS Dhoni or Sarfaraz Ahmed? ICC asks whose catch was better

After India beat West Indies in the World Cup 2019 on Thursday India have been on a roll in the ongoing World Cup 2019 with 5 wins from 6 completed matches thereby already having a foot inside the door to the semi-finals. Their neighbours and arch-rivals Pakistan, however have taken an entirely different route with wins against England and New Zealand highlighting an otherwise dismal campaign till date.

On Thursday during India’s crushing victory against their latest opponents West Indies in Manchester, MS Dhoni took a one-handed diving catch off the bowling of Jasprit Bumrah, sending back the big-hitting Carlos Brathwaite for just 1 run to his name. A day ago, Pakistan captain and wicketkeeper Sarfaraz Ahmed had also taken a similar catch to dismiss New Zealand’s Ross Taylor off the bowling of Shaheen Shah Afridi.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) took to Instagram to ask viewers, which among the two catches they think is better. ICC posted a clip showing both the catches side-by-side while captioning the post: ‘Dive and conquer, who did it better?

While fans flocked the post to put in their replies, Dhoni’s effort was seen as the most popular answer, at least after a cursory look over the comments section.

MS Dhoni is said to be one of the most trusted hands behind the wickets in the game but during India’s World Cup game against West Indies in Manchester, on Thursday, the veteran wicketkeeper-batsman had a rare bad day behind the stumps.

At Old Trafford, MS Dhoni conceded 9 byes, the most by him in an ODI in his career, as West Indies were out chasing 269 runs after India posted 268 for 7 in their given 50 overs. Dhoni surpassed the 7 byes he conceded in 2014, coincidentally, against the same side in Kochi.
However, it would be safe to say that the former India captain compensated for all his misses when he pulled off a terrific catch behind the stumps to dismiss Carlos Brathwaite and help Jasprit Bumrah get his first wicket of the day.

In a back of length delivery, angled in from Bumrah, Brathwaite got an outside edge that flew to the right of Dhoni. Though, Dhoni was wrong-footed, but he quickly got into stance to dive to his right and remove Brathwaite with his one-handed catch.
