New Zealand’s gun fast bowler Kyle Jamieson opined that it was great to get the wicket of Indian skipper Virat Kohli’s wicket twice in the World Test Championship final at the Ageas Bowl, Southampton. Jamieson was able to get the big wicket of Virat Kohli in both the innings as he bowled at the top of his mark.
The lanky fast bowler was able to set up Virat Kohli beautifully in the first innings. Jamieson got the ball to move away from the right-hander and then got one back into him to plumb him in front of the wickets. Subsequently, Jamieson was able to get the big wicket of Kohli in the second innings as well, as he got the ball to move away and produced an outside edge.
Jamieson returned with 5/31 in the first innings to record his fifth five wicket-haul in Test cricket and also scalped a brace in the second innings to help put the Kiwis in front.
The tall fast bowler was also able to get the crucial wicket of Cheteshwar Pujara in the second innings. In fact, Jamieson didn’t have the rub of the green on his side as Tim Southee dropped Rishabh Pant’s catch in the slips when the left-hander was only on five.
Kyle Jamieson said in the post-match presentation after he was awarded the Player of the match, “It’s a massive moment. To have some context around Test cricket is big and to be standing here now is surreal. I knew we had a big first hour today. We had the ball in the right areas, and we knew it would be a tough task. It’s nice to have the ball first up and play your part. It’s nice to have a chance to do good things for the team. The work that the other bowlers did was really helpful for my figures. Virat is a world-class player, and it was good to have some experience against him at RCB. To pick him up twice in the Test was great”.
Jamieson has had a dream start to his Test career as he has snared 46 wickets in eight Test matches. On the other hand, Virat Kohli also heaped praise on the youngster.
Kohli said, “Jamieson is coming up nicely in international cricket – good areas with the ball, and he can bat quite well too. He’s had a great game and he deserves the man of the match award”.
