Bengaluru FC bolster their defence ahead of the AFC Cup with the signing of Gabonese defender Yrondu Musavu-King

Bengaluru FC are wasting no time in bolstering their team after an underwhelming Indian Super League season where they finished seventh in the league table. Therefore they have signed Gabonese centre back Yrondu Musavu-King in a short term contract.

They have also appointed a new head coach in Marco Pezzaiuoli and the German will start his new challenge with the upcoming AFC Cup playoffs. The games are likely to happen in Goa in April and it will be a tough test for the Blues with plenty of new faces in the team and also under a new coach who will look to implement his philosophy to the club.

However Musavu-King’s signing looks like Juanan has not yet recovered and therefore they have gone with the 29-year-old to lead their backline which has not been great in the ISL this season. Musavu-King has loads of experience in France as he has played for clubs like Toulouse, Lorient and was plying his trade for Ligue 2 club Le Mans before joining the Blues. He has also featured for clubs like Udinese Calcio and Granada in Italy and Spain respectively.

The 29-year-old was delighted to join Bengaluru FC, as he said, “I had a chat with coach Pezzaiuoli about how he wants to play and his expectations of me. I have been looking forward to this new challenge. I have to thank the director, the coach, and the club for opening their doors to me. I’m eager to join my new teammates soon.”

The Blues will begin their AFC Cup journey on April 14 where they will be facing either Nepal Army Club or Sri Lanka Police. The match is set to be scheduled in Goa at the GMC Stadium in Bambolim.

Pezzaiuoli who will take charge of the club from this tournament was very happy with the signing of Musavu-King. “I am very happy that King has joined the BFC family. He is a fantastic personality who brings experience with him. having played in France and Italy. I am certain the dressing room will benefit from this. King is a young, versatile player, who can play in a number of different positions which gives us an advantage with different systems,” he said.

“At 29, he’s in the prime of his career and we’re adding a defensively strong player with a quality range of passes. He is someone who will stabilize our defence and strengthen the team,” he went on adding.

The Blues will hope that they get Juanan back from injury for the AFC Cup and even Musavu-King performs to his expected level taking them to greater heights. It has not been a great season for Bengaluru FC in the ISL and they need to redeem themselves at the AFC Cup.
