Manchester City striker Erling Haaland took the onus of a 2-1 loss against Aston Villa on his shoulders, saying he isn’t taking his chances and he needs to be better for the team. City haven’t been at their best in the recent past and the lack of confidence was palpable in their Saturday’s loss.
With this loss, the Cityzens have slipped to the sixth position in the Premier League standings, nine points behind table-leaders Liverpool, who have two more games in hand.
Meanwhile, Haaland has scored 13 goals in 17 matches of the ongoing Premier League.
“First, I’m looking at myself,” Haaland, 24, told TNT Sports. “I haven’t been doing things good enough, I haven’t been scoring my chances. I have to do better, I haven’t been good enough.
“Of course, our confidence is not the best. We know how important confidence is and you can see that it affects every human being. That is how it is, we have to continue and stay positive even though it is difficult.”
Haaland revealed that Guardiola is working hard and they are backing him to turn the tables.
“He won the Premier League six times in seven years, so we will never forget that,” Haaland added.
“He will find the solutions. He has been doing that every single year. We still believe in him, we have to work harder than ever right now.”
On the other hand, Guardiola is confident of turning a corner and said that the results will come for his team in the upcoming matches.
“We have to think positive and I have incredible trust in the guys,” Guardiola stated. “Some of them have incredible pride and desire to do it. We have to find a way, step by step, sooner or later to find a way back.”
Manchester City will next take on Everton at the Etihad Stadium on Thursday.
